Evalin: The Test

I was finally. FINALLY invited on a job. A mission, whatever you would like to call it. I am finally a chosen. Or a specialist as Devin so fondly called himself and his friends.

Well technically I'm still on the job I suppose. I'm writing this under Tokyo in the sewer.

Let me back up a bit to explain.

I started living in Colorado, the place where Zak and Devin initially met and where Devin lived when I was conceived in his soul. I suppose that this is one of the few places that feels like home.

So, there I sat on my hoard of goods when in walked a man with bright blue eyes. He spoke my name as if he knew me. This gave me pause, I had no intention of ending my life in the first year and stayed my hand. Normally I would strike down those who choose to invade my space. I would say that he was lucky, but it is very clear that he would have killed me in a moment if I were to have attacked him. He turned in to a giant, well, dragon… I suppose, and held me against the earth. I could literally watch the grass grow as he stood there. I suppose he wields the power of life… that is besides the point though. He explained to me that he did not intend to kill me, yet, and that I was going to work for him.

I agreed and he knocked me out.

I woke up in a large forest where I was told that I would be hunting prey that is specifically my opposite. As an additional caveat I was also told to bring this creature back alive. I didn't know what I was getting in to at all.

So, I loaded up my shadow shotgun with a few coils of darkness and set off through the woulds in my transition form. This is probably where my biggest mistake lay. I need to become more natural in my Dragon state, if that was the state I was in the entire time then I'm sure this beast would have been easy prey. With the mistakes I made though, I almost became its first prize.

My first mistake was finding the wrong beast. I saw a large creature that looked like a mix between a hyena and a lion. I figured that that was my target and easily captured it… then everything went downhill. I saw a glimmer off in the distance, it was nothing but a gold coin, but, I just can't stay away from things like that, so there I was, wandering through the woods following a trail to an enemy that was built to kill me.

There it lay, a god damn pile of treasure, waiting for me. So, like an idiot, I started pulling at it “collecting” it and before I knew it I felt burning fangs snapping around my neck and shaking me around like a rag doll before I even realized that I didn't find treasure. So I ran, I escaped away and snuck in to a nearby camp ground and cut off someone's shadow to devour and gain back some strength. He didn't seem to take well to it, but no one noticed me. I went back to where I started my search and meditated for about an hour till I felt ready to search again. This time I intended to draw out the beast and maim it. A true knockdown drag out fight. So I took on the largest most imposing form I could and found an open space to fight. There I waited for it to find me, surely enough it did latching on to me in the same way that a mongoose would attack a snake. I don't know if I like the idea of being the snake in this relationship. I really liked, well, Devin really liked the story of Riki-tiki-tavi… it's strange to see a different side of the story, then again I don't really think that that applies.

The fight went fairly well for me in actuality. I was afraid for a bit, and I am still clumsier at fighting in my, well, my natural body then I should be. I did end up getting the better of the creature, and I was able to hold it well enough to fly it back to my employer as it tried to claw and gore me.

When I returned to him he praised me on a job well done, but I feel as though I failed miserably. I'm simply glad that he did not see the fight itself. This is when the next part of my mission began. He ingested the creature I gave him and he pulled it out again and also gave me a large grub looking insect. I was told that I was to find this creature a place to live under Tokyo and supply it with 100 people to create a colony for it.

I think my nest would have made the same choice that I did.

This was not the only startling thing that came out of this creatures mouth though. He claimed to be my father and also said that I had a twin. I prefer not to think about this, I have a feeling I would very likely not enjoy this twins company, and I'm not sure if I trust that beast about being my father, though I suppose anything is possible.

I will right more soon, I have to collect more people for these grubs.
